Graduation Rates

Sara:

You should dig around a little-- maybe have a few off record conversations with principals. The graduation rates may be a sham. Harken back to Walbrook. See, Frankie put a lot of pressure on the principals to get their rates up. They had to submit the number of seniors who were failing to North Avenue, and in some cases there were calls back to the school saying "that's too many"-- with this kind of pressure, hmmm...wonder what happened? There were a whole lot of threats made this year. In many areas.

I fortunately don't deal with Seniors, but there may have been some pressure rolling down on teachers. We're back to social promotion in the city by the way. Sort of a "revolving issue" like the CEO's office. You have to wonder with test scores so abyssmal why grad rates are up so high!

By the way, nice job exposing Frank. He had to go. Destructive and downright dumb. I'm all for trying new things, but he did them in way too underhanded of a manner. Why no follow up that he is leaving? Apparently principals were told this two weeks ago.
